The One Thing
The story of Mary and Martha teaches us about proper spiritual priorities. While Martha became anxious about many tasks, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet. Jesus gently corrected Martha, not because service is wrong, but because she had lost sight of the one necessary thing - Jesus himself. This mirrors Abraham's example in Genesis 18, who first worshiped God and then offered hospitality. Our spiritual lives should follow this pattern: first worship, then service; first receive, then give. When we prioritize our relationship with Jesus, everything else finds its proper place.
